Ritual to Call Forth the Angels of the Shemhamphorash

Ordo Ad Vocandum Angelum Shemhamphorash

Rite to Call Forth One of the Seventy and Two Sacred Names for Divine Task and Operation

Ex Ritibus Vetustis, Sacrosanctum, Sub Sigillo Dei.

PREPARATION

Let the Operator be clean in body and soul, having confessed his iniquities, fasted from the setting of the sun unto the third hour of the day, and having abstained from impure thoughts, flesh, and wine. Let the Circle be drawn with consecrated chalk or charcoal, enclosing the Divine Names:

+ EL + ELOHIM + TETRAGRAMMATON + ADONAI + SHADDAI +

Write these about the perimeter, enclosing your altar facing toward the East.

Prepare a white parchment inscribed with the name of the Angel to be called, its Seal if known, and the Name of God associated with its order. Place also the Psalm associated with it, written or printed, upon the altar with a clean lamp burning.

MATERIALS

• A consecrated wand of almond or hazel.

• A censer with incense of frankincense and myrrh.

• A white robe or mantle girded with a cord.

• The Psalterium Davidis (Book of Psalms).

• The parchment bearing the Angel’s name and Divine Title.

THE RITUAL

I. OPENING INCANTATION

Stand within the Circle, facing East, and recite with firm voice:

"In the Name of the Most High, who was and is and shall be — EL SHADDAI, ELOHIM TZEVAOT, YOHVAH MELEKH HAOLAM — I do now commence this sacred work under the Authority of the Eternal God, the Creator of the Hosts of Heaven."

Raise the wand and trace the invoking pentagram of Earth.

II. CALLING THE ANGEL

Say:

"I do now call Thee, O Glorious Angel [Name of Shemhamphorash Angel], thou Servant of the Most High, Minister of His Will, who proceedest from the ineffable Name [Insert the letters comprising the name, e.g., Yod-He-Vau], and art set over the works of [Area of specialty: e.g., healing, knowledge, justice]. I adjure thee by the Most Excellent Name of God [e.g., EHEIEH, YHVH, ADONAI, ELION, etc.], that thou appear visibly or invisibly before me, and lend thy virtue unto the fulfilment of this task:"

Place thy hand over the parchment and say:

"I charge thee by the ineffable Name YOD HE VAU HE, by the Name AGLA, and by the Seal of the Living God — that thou come forth swiftly and obediently, not to terrify nor deceive, but to fulfill thy charge."

III. PSALM OF ALIGNMENT

Read aloud with intent the Psalm attributed to the Angel.

While reciting, hold the parchment and meditate upon the virtue and visage of the Angel. If the Seal is known, trace it gently in the air.

IV. THANKSGIVING AND CHARGE

When the presence is felt, say:

"Blessed art Thou, Lord God of Hosts, who hath made His Angels spirits and His ministers a flaming fire. I thank Thee for Thy mercy and command Thy servant to fulfill this work in Thy holy Name. Let the angelic power of (Angel name) be fixed upon this working, and return not until the charge be complete."

V. DISMISSAL

When the working is done or at the set end, stand and say:

"Depart now, O noble Angel [Name], in peace and obedience. Return unto thy sphere and abide in the Light Eternal. Let no harm befall, nor falsehood linger, for I send thee under the authority of the Most High, by the Name ADONAI, by ELOHIM GIBOR, and by the Word that was spoken before the foundation of the world."

Make the sign of the Cross or Pentagram and say:

"Amen. Amen. Amen. So be it."

NOTES ON REPETITION AND SAFETY

• Perform not this rite idly or without a virtuous intent. The Angels of the Shemhamphorash are mighty and holy, and though they may descend to aid the faithful, they heed not the wicked.

• If the operation is of long duration, renew the Psalm daily until the work is done.
