The Altar Of Dread

If there is one thread that binds all people together, regardless of path, status, wisdom, wealth, or circumstance, it is fear.
Fear of not being able to pay the rent. Fear of whether the new job will come through. Fear that the person you desire may not desire you in return. Fear of sickness, failure, rejection, abandonment, humiliation, loss.
And so the mind circles.
Again and again, it returns to the same dread, polishing it like a dark stone in the palm. Most people do this without even noticing. They move through their days in a state of quiet fretting, carrying a dozen invisible burdens, many of which have not happened, may never happen, and perhaps were never even likely to happen at all.
This is how anxiety becomes ordinary. It disguises itself as responsibility. It says, “I am only preparing you.” It says, “I am only keeping you alert.” It says, “If you stop worrying, something terrible will happen.”
But worry is not the same as wisdom.
There is a difference between looking clearly at a situation and feeding it with fear. There is a difference between making practical arrangements and sitting before the altar of dread, offering it your attention, your energy, your imagination, and your peace.
This is where the danger begins.
At first, you worry about something understandable: bills, work, health, love, survival. These are human concerns. But fear is hungry. Once it is given the throne, it rarely stays confined to one matter. Before long, the mind begins searching for more reasons to tremble. One concern becomes five. Five become twenty. Soon, the soul is living in a house whose windows all face disaster.
And here is the irony: worrying obsessively over a matter does not necessarily prevent it. In many cases, it simply strengthens your bond to it.
From a magickal perspective, attention is not passive. Emotion is not meaningless. Repeated thought, charged by strong feeling, becomes a current. It becomes a form of prayer, even if it is a prayer spoken in terror. What you continually fear, imagine, rehearse, and energise will begin to gather weight around you.
Not because it was always destined to happen. But because you have fed it.
This is one of the more uncomfortable truths of spiritual work: like seeks like. Like attracts like. This principle does not only apply to blessings, prosperity, love, protection, and success. It also applies to dread, failure, ruin, rejection, and loss.
The universe does not distinguish between “I desire this” and “I am terrified of this” in the way the human mind does. Both are intense forms of focus. Both are offerings of energy. Both are pathways.
This does not mean that every fear will instantly manifests. Nor does it mean that one anxious thought will destroy your life. The mind is not so fragile, and the spirit is not so powerful so as to manifest everything at a whim.
But when fear becomes a ritual repeated daily, hourly, silently, obsessively, it begins to shape the inner world. And the inner world, left unchecked, begins to shape the outer one. So guard your attention.
Do not give your fear endless incense. Do not kneel before every imagined disaster. Do not mistake panic for prophecy. If something must be handled, handle it. If action must be taken, take it. If protection must be raised, raise it. If a road must be opened, open it. But do not sit in the dark, feeding the thing you claim you wish to avoid.

It is also difficult to be around fearful people. They constantly complain and talk about ‘what might happen’. Instead of being sympathetic, now I spend very little conversational time with them- it is an energy suck, like a spiritual virus. Good to recognize and avoid.
Thanks for writing this. I needed to hear it.
