“You are what you eat”…we are sure that almost everyone in the world has heard this saying at some point in their lives. Of course, this statement mainly refers to what you consume, what you physically eat. If you eat that which is unhealthy to you, then you will be unhealthy…and so on…that the food and nutrients you consume directly impact your health, well-being, and even your physical appearance.
This statement can even flow over into that which you surround yourself with – be it a certain type of person, a certain environment and so on – will directly affect you as well. Some debate can be made in this regard whether you seek to surround yourself with those like-minded to you, or those who share a similar nature, or whether that which you surround yourself with will influence you to become as that which you surround yourself with. Our opinion on the matter is that it is not just one of these two factors at play, but rather both.
If you surround yourself with people who are inherently negative and destructive, then even if you are a positive person, their presence will inevitably influence you to become like them. Yet, the other factor presents a glaring matter – that if you are indeed so positive, then why do you seek that which is negative to surround yourself with in the first place?
Nonetheless – we are not dieticians, and we are not about to give you a lecture on who or what you should surround yourself with…what we will mention is the spiritual aspect to this concept.
For this purpose, we will change the statement from “you are what you eat” to “like attracts like”. Does this sound familiar? It should. Partially because we repeat this statement rather often, and partially because it is the refrain (or rather summary) of one of the Seven Hermetic Laws: the Law of Magnetism. For those of you unfamiliar with this Law, the Law of Magnetism, as part of the Seven Hermetic Laws, is based on the principle that like attracts like. It suggests that individuals and their thoughts and feelings have magnetic qualities that draw similar energy and experiences toward them. In essence, if you think positively and emit positive energy, you are more likely to attract positive people and circumstances into your life. Conversely, negative thoughts and energy can attract negative experiences. This law underscores the importance of maintaining a specific mindset and cultivating the energy you wish to attract.
Now, the concept of “like attracts like” in and of itself has so many possible applications and manifestations that it can become overwhelming, particularly if you have not regarded how far-reaching this concept tends to be…yet, for the sake of this particular blog post, we will point out a few factors.
A long time ago, when we were deeply immersed in Necromancy and the Darker currents (and when we say “dark”…think “pitch-fucking-black”)…the energies and Intelligences that we worked with had major effects on us – not just on our spiritual development (at least, for that leg of our journey)…but even our mentality, perception, outlook…all the way down to our physical appearances. Oh, we aren’t talking about things you can easily change such as the clothes that you wear (although this was also influenced to some degree) – no. We are referring to our very appearance itself. At the time, looking at ourselves, we looked rather “normal”, however, in retrospect – our physical appearance belied something far deeper and more telling: we were extremely pale, thin…our bodies reflected that which we surrounded ourselves with, the energy that we consumed permeated from us and manifested itself even in our physical forms. There is nothing wrong with that of course – yet, as our path grew and changed into what it is today…our mentality, perception, outlook and our physical appearance (to name but a few) shifted once again – we now have color upon our faces, we no longer look so thin and physically stunted – we look healthy, we look happy.
Let us take a moment to clarify something here to eliminate any possible misunderstanding – whatever energy current you choose to immerse yourself in, and thus “become”, is part of your own spiritual journey. We are not saying that the darker currents are “bad” or whatever, no, we would be hypocrites if we had to say that this is “bad” and this is “good” and so on, as it contradicts our perception on the concepts of “good” and “bad”. What we are trying to say is that whenever you choose a path and you live it – where you don’t just practice it as if a weekend hobby or something like that – but where you immerse yourself so completely and utterly in your practices – your practices will become you – not the other way around. You will be an avatar of those currents that you work with, you will emanate those energies, you will draw that which is kindred to those currents to you…both in a positive and negative way. It’s your life and your choice – however, if you choose to live your life, you must live it to the fullest…if you choose to practice a path, you must practice it to the fullest. If you remain purposefully “neutral”…purposefully just “dipping your toes” into any paradigm you find…we will tell you something rather interesting – this in and of itself is an energy: the energy of neutrality. Oh, it may seem very uneventful and perhaps even “safe” – however, neutrality is the cradle of stagnation.
