An added note - we have purposefully broken one of these rings and have performed a variety of tests upon it, including the acetone test. The outside of the ring (that which is visible) is glossy and smooth, and during the acetone test, it did not stain or wear. The inner part of the ring (that which is inside, seen when broken) carries the distinct mineral look and slight glitter of cinnabar, and during the acetone test, the cotton was stained red. The outer resin safeguards you from possible contact.
 
Also note that the ring itself is a bit darker than what you can see on the photos - due to the lighting.
