The Elder Futhark is the oldest form of the Runic alphabets, used by Germanic tribes from the 2nd to the 8th centuries CE. The term "Elder Futhark" comes from the first six letters of the runic alphabet: "f, u, þ, a, r, k." The Runes were used for a variety of purposes, including writing, divination, and Magickal inscriptions and purposes.
 
Each Rune has a name and a symbolic meaning. In some cases, the Runes are carved onto amulets, tools, or other objects that were meant to bring luck, protection, or other benefits to the owner.
