The Talisman of the Unfound Centre

We originally intended this to be a Patreon-only post, however, we have since decided to make it a public blog post. Inspired by the old Greek labyrinth—and, more particularly, by the labyrinth as it appears within talismanic and apotropaic traditions—we devised this rather useful little talisman for the protection of an individual, a family, or a household.

Its purpose is quite simple: to receive, confound, bind, and misdirect those forces which approach with harmful intent.

Hostility, envy, restriction, malice, baneful influence, coercion, spiritual interference, and those things which seek to fasten themselves upon the protected are symbolically drawn into the labyrinth. They may enter. They may wander. They may seek. Yet they are denied the centre.

That is, essentially, the entire principle behind it.

The construction of the talisman itself is uncomplicated. Drawing it by hand is preferable, as this allows the design to be formed deliberately rather than merely reproduced; however, there is nothing wrong with printing it should this be more practical. If printed, ensure that it is reproduced in colour rather than monochrome.

Once prepared, it is to be empowered according to your usual method.

Should you wish to give the operation a planetary timing, the talisman may suitably be empowered upon a Sunday during a day hour of the Sun, or upon a Monday during a nocturnal hour of the Moon. The former lends itself particularly well to authority, preservation, and the repulsion of hostile influence; the latter to protection, enclosure, concealment, and the safeguarding of the person or household.

During the empowerment, obtain a single drop of blood from the individual for whom the talisman is being prepared and place this within the centremost circle of the labyrinth.

If the talisman is intended to protect several people—for example, the members of a household—then one drop from each individual is placed within the centre. In this manner, the centre becomes representative of precisely that which the labyrinth is intended to conceal and defend.

Once the centre has been marked, state the following:

IAŌ SABAŌTH ABRASAX AKRAMMACHAMAREI

I bind and confound every harmful, hostile, constraining, envious, and baneful force that seeks (name/s of individual/s).

Let it enter and not arrive.

Let it seek and not find.

Let it pursue and not attain.

Let every road become another road, every gate another gate, every turning another turning.

Let its purpose be forgotten, its direction broken, its power diminished, its passage closed.

Wander, wander, wander—without centre, without end, without return. By APORAX - PLANĒTHŌR - AMPHODROMOS - DESMARA - KRYPHION - ASTOCHOS - ANEKPHYGĒ and SPHRAGIDŌN - remain enclosed within the labyrinth, bound beneath its paths, unable to touch that which lies protected at its heart.

IAŌ IAŌ IAŌ — ABRASAX — SABAŌTH — PHNOUNEBEĒCH

Thereafter, fumigate the talisman thoroughly with frankincense.

If intended for personal protection, it may simply be carried upon the person, kept amongst one's personal effects, or otherwise retained nearby.

If intended for the protection of a household, it is best placed close to the principal entrance of the home. There is a certain appropriateness in this: whatever approaches with hostile purpose encounters the labyrinth before it encounters that which lies within. Also - the symbolic placement of thresholds.

The talisman should thereafter be renewed approximately once each month. There is no need to reconstruct it each time. Simply fumigate it once more with incense and recite the Words of Power inscribed around its circumference:

APORAX - PLANĒTHŌR - AMPHODROMOS - DESMARA - KRYPHION - ASTOCHOS - ANEKPHYGĒ - SPHRAGIDŌN

In doing so, the original command is reaffirmed and the labyrinth is once again set to its work: to receive what is hostile, to confound what is malicious, to bind what seeks to bind, and to deny every harmful force the thing which it came seeking.
