Some talismans are carried. Others are called by name.
The Intindili, sometimes called the Lucky Bean or African Sea Bean, is a remarkable object with a long-standing place in Southern African spiritual and folk-magickal practices. Traditionally associated with good fortune, prosperity, protection, and favourable opportunities, it is particularly recognised in Zulu spiritual traditions, where it may be carried, kept in the home, or placed within a business to encourage prosperity and ward off misfortune.
Yet, there is something rather more interesting about the Intindili than its reputation as a lucky charm.
In certain traditional practices, the Intindili is given a name, spoken to, and treated as a personal spiritual companion. Rather than being regarded merely as an inanimate object possessing beneficial properties, it becomes something with which its keeper establishes an ongoing relationship.
It is this aspect of the Intindili that we have incorporated into our own preparations.
Each Intindili offered by us is individually prepared, named, and ritually empowered for three complementary purposes: good fortune, prosperity, and protection.
Its work is directed towards attracting favourable circumstances, encouraging financial improvement and worthwhile opportunities, protecting its keeper against misfortune and harmful influences, and helping to preserve that which has already been gained.
However, unlike an ordinary talisman that is simply consecrated and subsequently carried, our Intindili is prepared according to the animistic understanding of it. Within this approach, the Intindili is regarded as a vessel possessing an indwelling spiritual intelligence — what one might call the Spirit of the Bean - which you then build a relationship with.
During its preparation, each Intindili is ceremonially introduced, given its own name, entrusted with its appointed work, and empowered accordingly. Its hollow interior also contains a specially prepared talisman corresponding to its purposes.
This process establishes the foundation of its individual spiritual identity. The relationship, however, does not end with its preparation.
Upon receiving the Intindili, its new keeper is encouraged to establish a personal relationship with it. This is accomplished through a simple introduction, learning and using its individual name, speaking to it, acknowledging its presence, and occasionally addressing it concerning the matters for which it has been prepared.
There is no need for elaborate daily ceremonies, complicated offerings, or lengthy evocations. Indeed, one of the more appealing aspects of the Intindili is the simplicity with which such a relationship may be cultivated.
This is the development of a relationship with the intelligence associated with the bean. The repeated attention, recognition, and interaction will further cultivate and strengthen its individualised capabilities.
As with any enduring relationship, familiarity and consistency are encouraged. The Intindili is not intended to be forgotten in a drawer and remembered only when something is urgently needed. It is intended to become a familiar companion in the everyday affairs of its keeper.
You will also receive the details of your specific Intindili, such as its name and guidance on formally receiving and introducing yourself to your Intindili, maintaining your relationship with it, addressing it concerning your needs, and caring for it appropriately.
Each Intindili is individually prepared, and no two are quite alike. Natural differences in appearance, shape, and surface markings are to be expected.
Our preparations draw upon documented Southern African traditions concerning the Intindili, particularly its naming, spiritual acknowledgement, and association with prosperity and protection, while incorporating our own methods of consecration and empowerment.
We have deliberately retained its broader traditional associations rather than dividing its purposes into separate charms. Each Intindili is therefore prepared to serve its keeper in matters of fortune, prosperity, and protection alike.
Above all, we encourage its future keeper to approach it not simply as a possession, but as a named spiritual companion whose relationship with them may be cultivated over time.
A limited number of individually named and empowered Intindili are available in this initial release.
You will be provided with the Itindili as well as a digital booklet containing details on how to work with it. We will also be available for questions, pre and post purchase.
