This booklet presents a complete Solomonic operation for the evocation of a benevolent working spirit of Mercury, intended for practitioners who wish to establish a disciplined and functional relationship with an intelligence of the Mercurial sphere.

The operation is particularly suited to works involving knowledge, learning, writing, eloquence, communication, negotiation, commerce, divination, interpretation, research, signs, symbols, messages and the discovery of hidden information. Rather than offering only theory or historical commentary, the booklet provides a practical ritual framework that may be performed from beginning to end.

Particular attention is given to the proper handling of an unknown spirit, including the establishment of ritual authority, the examination of the presence which answers, the confirmation of its office, the setting of boundaries and the formal giving of charge. The aim is to provide the practitioner with a method that is structured, intelligible and usable, without reducing Solomonic Magick to unnecessary ceremonial complexity.

We would also like to address the use of the Divine Names, psalms, terms etc, as this is an aspect of ceremonial practice which is frequently misunderstood. Those who dismiss or sneer at their usefulness often do so because they assume that their presence necessarily requires submission to, or belief in, an "omnipotent deity" understood according to conventional Abrahamic theology. That is not the manner in which they are employed here. Within the approach of High Magick, the Divine Names (etc) function as expressions of supreme ritual authority and as means of calling forth and drawing upon the highest power of the Self. This is a principle we have discussed repeatedly in our public work and in several of our other writings, and it remains an important part of understanding how and why these formulae operate within the ritual structure.

This volume also serves as the first instalment of Ritualia Salomonis, our series of practical works devoted to Solomonic Theurgy and Ceremonial High Magick. Each volume is intended to present a specific operation that may actually be performed, while preserving the authority, order and dignity characteristic of the tradition.
